Last night my gorgeous friend Liv and I set off for another one of our London adventures. We ventured through the streets of Soho to tick one of London’s healthy hotspots off our restaurant bucket list.
Mildred’s, located on Lexington street, is a bustling little restaurant, serving insane vegetarian and plant based food. There was a little wait for our table but we were so busy catching up that the time flew by. And honestly it was just so inspiring to see a place promoting a sustainable healthy lifestyle, full to the brim with people!
The variety of creative dishes on their menu is enough to keep any sceptical meat eater happy. Halloumi burgers with mountains of chunky sweet potato chips, black bean burritos with smashed avocado, pumpkin tortellini in a creamy mushroom sauce all looked very tempting.
But both Liv and I fell head over heals for the Sri Lankan sweet potato curry, and knew straight away that this was the dish for us! Not only did it sound like heaven in a bowl, it was our waiter’s favourite dish and he couldn’t recommend it enough. So of course we couldn’t resist.
And just look how beautiful it was!!
Cooked in a golden coconut sauce this dish was gorgeous and glowy, with the perfect amount of spice. Chunks of sweet potato were served with basmati rice, a zingy tomato sambal with a fiery kick, and roasted cashews.
If you know me then you’ll know that anything with cashews is a winner in my books. And these were no ordinary garnish. Roasted with lime, they tied the whole dish together and added the perfect crunch. Amazing!
The atmosphere of this busy little restaurant is so inviting. Not only was our waiter hilarious but the tables are also very communal, allowing us to chatter away to fellow veggie lovers. Meeting people, however briefly, with similar values to you is so empowering. If you’ve been craving a little inspiration as of late then I cannot recommend seeking out this type of connection enough!
Oh and the food gets better! After being blown away by the curry of course we had to try the puddings.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not vegan or gluten free but it was lovely to see a pudding menu that catered for all types of diets like this one. With so many options, even those with intolerances can literally have their cake and eat it! Nothing should get in the way of you having a sweet treat.
Intrigued by the concept of a vegan, gluten free cake I decided to try the brownie. And I’m so glad I did! Marbled with peanut butter and served with chocolate sauce and soya milk ice cream, you would never be able to tell that this pud was free from butter, eggs and wheat. I might have to try and make my own recipe to relive the experience at home!
Enjoying treats like this is all part of restoring balance and I’m loving every second of it.
If you fancy trying something a little bit different, and have a healthy chocolate obsession, then Mildred’s is the place for you. Take a look at their website if this post has made you hungry http://www.mildreds.co.uk/
I’d love to hear from you if you check it out or if you know of any other veggie restaurants worth adding to the bucket list.
Lots of love,
